Message from the Superintendent: New Fences

Superintendent Bill Fishbough

As you may have noticed, we added new perimeter fencing to the Hanford High School and Hanford West High School campuses this summer.

These fences, paid for with State school safety funds, are part of our efforts to make sure students and staff are safe and secure on campus.  The additional fencing will allow school staff to better monitor foot traffic on and off campus, including students and visitors.

The long-term plan is to create a "restricted campus" at Hanford High School, Hanford West High School and Sierra Pacific High School in the 2011-2012 school year.

We are still working out the specifics, but the plan is to have a closed campus for 9th and 10th grade students and a modified open campus for 11th and 12th graders. That means that upperclassmen in good standing would be able to leave campus at lunch time.

To support these safety related changes, we are also looking at expanding our on-campus meal options for students in 2011-2012.

I will work to keep parents, students and community members up to date on these changes as they occur.
