New immunization requirements / Vacuna requerida

Got Tdap?

All HJUHSD students need a Tdap booster shot before the next school year.

It's easy as 1-2-3:

1) Check in with your doctor - Spring Break may be a good time for a doctor visit.
2) Get a record of the Tdap booster shot from your doctor.
3) Bring your immunization record to school ASAP to ensure a smooth registration process!

All 7th through 12th grade students are now required to get a Tdap booster shot before starting the 2011-2012 school year. The Tdap vaccination protects against Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Whooping Cough (Pertussis).

Whooping Cough has been increasing in the United States and continues to be widespread in California. For the 2011–12 school year only, children entering 7th through 12th grades will need proof of a Tdap shot before starting school. For 2012-13 and beyond, only students entering 7th grade will need proof of a Tdap shot.

The other recommended vaccines for 7th through 12th graders are: Meningococcal Meningitis, Chicken Pox (Varicella), Human Papillomavirus (HPV) and Seasonal Flu.

Children should visit their health care provider to get their shots. Children 18 years old and younger who are uninsured or underinsured may qualify for the Vaccines for Children Program to get free or low cost immunization services. To find a provider near you, call 1-877-243-8832 or visit: www.eziz.org/pages/vfc_locations2.html. Some local pharmacies and Health Departments may also offer vaccines.
