Trustee Area Re-Districting

In the upcoming weeks, the Hanford Joint Union High School District Board of Trustees will be discussing and adopting new Trustee Area boundaries in light of the 2010 Federal Census.

Every ten (10) years school districts must determine if population changes within the trustee areas require redistricting. The school district is mandated by law to adjust area boundaries if population is not apportioned equally among the five trustee areas. The equal protection clauses of the United States and California Constitutions require that each person’s vote be entitled to substantially equal representation from his or her representatives. Reynolds v. Sims (1964) 84 S.Ct. 1362, 1381. This is known as the “one person, one vote” rule. Absolute equality is not required, but equal protection demands that the trustee districts be apportioned as equal as possible.

After a preliminary review, we have determined that we must undertake the process of redistricting. Because this decision has an effect on you as a registered voter in the Hanford Joint Union High School District, we would like to personally invite you to participate in the process to ensure that your concerns are addressed.

We therefore, encourage you to attend the public hearings scheduled at 6 p.m. September 27 and 6 p.m. October 11. Both public hearings will be at the District Office located at 823 W. Lacey Blvd. in Hanford, California.

This is an opportunity for you to address the Board with your support, concerns, suggestions and any other comments you may have on the redistricting plan.

All materials relating to the redistricting plan are available 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday thru Friday and may be obtained by calling or visiting the Hanford Joint Union High School District Office at 823 W. Lacey Blvd., Hanford, CA 93230.

The information can also be found on our website at http://www.hjuhsd.k12.ca.us/board.htm#redistricting. We would like to thank you for your continued support and cooperation and look forward to seeing you at the public hearings.

Vaccination documents are due by FRIDAY

All HJUHSD students need to provide documentation of their Tdap booster shot to their school office BY THIS FRIDAY.

All California 7th-12th grade students are now required to get a Tdap booster shot to be enrolled in school. By State law, students who do not have their Tdap vaccinations on file at their school by this Friday will NOT BE ALLOWED TO ATTEND SCHOOL until they provide that documentation.

The Tdap vaccination protects against Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Whooping Cough (Pertussis). (For 2012-13 and beyond, only students entering 7th grade will need proof of a Tdap shot.)

Students should visit their health care provider to get their shots. Children 18 and younger who are uninsured or under-insured may qualify for the Vaccines for Children Program to get free or low cost immunization services. To find a provider near you, call 1-877-243-8832 or visit: www.eziz.org/pages/vfc_locations2.html.

Some local pharmacies and health departments may also offer vaccines. For more information, please visit ShotsForSchool.org.
