The Hanford Joint Union High School District Board of Trustees will hold a Study Session from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, November 9 at the HJUHSD Board Room, located at 823 W. Lacey Boulevard on plans to convert Hanford High School and Hanford West High School from “open” campuses to “restricted” campuses beginning in the 2011-2012 school year.
The HJUHSD Board invites parents, students, business representatives and other community members to attend this Study Session to learn more about the planning process for this transition and to share their thoughts and concerns on the subject
The overall goal of this transition is to help increase student safety.
The tentative plan is to have a closed campus for Freshmen and Sophomores and to offer an open campus privilege for Juniors and Seniors in good standing that would allow those students to leave campus at lunch time.
New perimeter fencing - paid for by State school safety funds - was added to the Hanford High and Hanford West High campuses this summer as part of this transition. The District is also exploring the expansion of on-campus meal options for students.
The Board welcomes feedback from any interested community partners on these topics.
Interested community members who cannot attend the Nov. 9 meeting are invited to write to the Board at: HJUHSD Board of Trustees, 823 W. Lacey Blvd. Hanford, Ca
